This view is from a pass along the arete near, west, and above Morris Lake. I used this point to study with binoculars my intended route from Boulder Creek lakes to Man-on-Rock Pass. I felt I could find the Forbidden notch pass from this view, but when I got to Boulder Creek lakes, it looked very impossible. There's more to this story in later photos. Grey Rock Pass is the best and safest access notch into Papoose Lake from Canyon Creek. It has a vein of grey stone in it, flanked with the ever present granite. The red line is the route I hiked to get to Grizzly Lake, which is beyond Man-on-Rock Pass. The descent from Smith Lake to Canyon Creek is brutal, brushy, and not to be taken lightly!
