I saw this and was going to ask about your cardboard mulch. Bet that works very nicely. I've seen old carpet and also newspapers... I prefer to just let the leaves lie in the beds, myself. Done it now for the last few years until this year. The beds are all dry, now I wish I'd left the leaves!
