Cheng settled in Hong Kong in the 1960s and took up farming. After his retirement in the 1990s,
he studied Chinese painting under Lee Chun-cheung at the Department of Extramural Studies
of the Cinese University of Hong Kong. The subjects of his paintings are always associated
with Chinese history and peasant life, and his work, marked by naivety.
