Not that long ago, Bremen had a very busy sea and river port. Nowadays, much of the ship traffic has moved to the deeper waters of Bremerhaven a bit further north, or to the nearby super port of Hamburg. The festival took place around the "Europahafen", one of the former harbor basins.
