A wide and airy space, this square is on the western edge of the city centre. In medieval times it was the horse & cattle market and place of execution. Later the general market was held there each Friday for centuries and the railway station was built just south of it in the 19th century. Today it hosts a Saturday morning market and large travelling fairs regularly throughout the year.
