The Belfry dominates the Markt, rising above it to 275 ft., with a 4 ft tilt and 366 steps to the top section! Its 3 sections were built in the 13th, 14th & 15th centuries respectively. The 1748 clock carillon peals automatically every 15 minutes, and a carilloneur actually plays the 47 bells for hour long concerts several times a week.
It rises from the Market Halls.... originally an old covered market with a small courtyard at its centre, first built in 1279 and added to up until the 15th century.
