080528_132358_3351 Truth In Advertising?

Harris Street and Scott Street, Pyrmont NSW

Guy on the left: "So just how different IS this Portuguese influenced Indian food of yours?"
Guy on the right: "Very different. Bloody different in fact."
Woman in purple coat walking up: "Look at those guys trying to convince everyone that it's bloody different..."
Woman in blue dress to woman in pink top: "Meh, I've tried it, it's just the bloody same..."

The advertisement is for an Indian restaurant called Viva Goa. I went on a date there once and the food wasn't bad at all... and I'm speaking as someone who's not a great fan of Indian cuisine, Portuguese-influenced or otherwise.

The date, on the other hand, was SO bad that it was picked up by seismic monitoring stations in Alaska. But I don't hold that against the restaurant.

Edit August 2023: Viva Goa restaurant turned up its metaphorical toes over 10 years ago. At least it lasted longer than the aforementioned relationship which had been dead for... two? three, maybe? years before this shot was taken. The Blue Eyed Dragon restaurant (note the sign above the head of the guy on the right) is still around, and I went there once for a friend's leaving party, but it's over the other side of the block to the right, in Pyrmont Street. I believe that the building that it occupies used to be the school belonging to the church next door to it, but the demographics of Pyrmont has changed since its blue collar days. You won't see a whole lot of kids around there these days, so there is less demand for schools.

As for all the other sundry and assorted characters in this shot? 15 years after the event, who knows? The two women walking down the street are likely to be well past retirement age by now. The other three were young enough that pretty much any options were open to them... or so we like to think, anyway.

I still have to give restaurant full marks for the sign, though. It was eye catching and therefore clever.
