FLIGHTLESS CORMORANT (Phalacrocorax harrisi) 1370c

Galapagos Islands, Ecuador

In part because it has no natural predators in the Galapagos, the flightless cormorant is distinguished by small, atrophied wings. Ferral populations of dogs, cats and pigs have taken their toll on the flightless cormorant in the recent past, and their population at present is only about 1,000 individuala. This species is the subject of an intensive conservation program.
