Anne Marie herself had always enjoyed dressing up, putting on exotic clothes from Maman's wardrobe that smelt of mothballs. With her sister, she had produced plays - normally romantic adaptations of Cinderella. Papa had delighted in the amateur dramatics provided the plot was fairly straightforward and the histrionics did not go on too long.
