This is sort of a long story....but Inga and I have a cosmic connection of the type you might hear about on Art Bell's middle of the night radio show. I got interested in bike racing in the early 60s, when I was 13. I swam on a swim team in Portland and would ride the bus from Beaverton into the big city for swim workouts. Except I'd always go first to Kissler's Bike Shop, then at 4th and Jefferson. I'd hang out and bug Franz the owner and Garth the mechanic until it was time to walk up to the Multnomah Club and swim. My route to the club went past Portland's City Hall. I often saw the mayor leaving work and eventually he started to recognize me and would say hello. Finally I stopped and introduced myself. That was Terry Schrunk, mayor from 1957-1973. Mayor Schrunk is Inga's grandfather. So before Inga was born, my obsession with bike racing caused me to meet her grandfather!
