2008 Migratory Fallout, South Padre Island, Texas
Yesterday on South Padre Island, we got to see an incredible rainbow of migratory birds
that stop on the island to rest as a result of weather changes that affect their migration. This
is called a "migratory fallout." We recently had a downpouring of rain and a coldfront here in
south Texas that contributed to this fallout. Birds sighted included yellow warblers, indigo buntings,
orchard orioles and rose-breasted grosbeaks. Above is a sampling of shots from yesterday.
It was absolutely incredible to see these birds and imagine the many thousands of miles
they still have to travel on their migratory journey! God is so amazing!
