Looking at Mt Hood through (what I think is) the Gates of the Mountain.

I would turn around here since I did not want to get any closer to the steep sides, (Spring Avalanches?). It looks like you could go past the gates, to part of the ridge that does not have vertical rock face. Alternatively you could ski up here, in a sloping angle, to hopefully a gap in the rocks face that might require a short climb.

I have never gotten this far, the creek always forced me closer the the left bank than I wanted to be. Today the creek is completely covered in snow.
