Night Cactus Bloom

Gunnedah NSW Australia

Possibly: Cereus peruvianus - night blooming cereus - Peruvian Apple

The cactus at our old family house was planted about 50 years ago. It is maybe
10-12 feet tall. It blooms at night, most years, each bloom only lasting until about
noon the next day. If you catch the flowers early, just after dawn, they are about
tennis ball size, and exquisite. They have a strong scent at night, which fades away quickly.

Nikon F801s , Nikkor AF-D 2.8/60mm, Kodak Gold 100

other sizes: small medium large original auto

Exquisite flower indeed.
We have lots of these during my childhood. My mom loves these flowers.

Hi Colin
I believe that the blossom belongs to Cereus peruvianus. I love this cactus and it's flowers. Nice shot!

Nice Colin. I like how the light in the background adds to the image.

I know this kind of flower. I have one called Queen of the Night . When it opens at night, the scent is so intense and intoxicated. Beautiful shot here. V
