I seem to be on a cemetery kick lately. Let's hope it doesn't lead to anything!! :-)
(from the Department of Veteran's Affairs website description of the place)
"In 1867, an eight-acre plot was appropriated from local resident François Poussin for the establishment of a national cemetery for deceased Union soldiers who died in the region. Approximately a decade later, a suit was filed by Poussin’s heirs and the United States was ordered to pay his descendents $1,200 for title to the property."
It was a pretty Spring day and despite most of the trees not yet being fully leafed out, things are starting to get really green. Give it another week or two and it will be VERY green. By the way, the Alexandria National Cemetery is actually located across the Red River in Pineville, LA.
