With the melting of the snow in the northern states, the River has risen quite a lot in the last few days and is already seeping through the locks (on right) of the Bonnet Carre' Spillway. The normal River bank is at the tree line. A barge going down River was having an easy time but a barge going upriver was barely moving against the current.
