ORANGE-TIP - ANTHOCHARIS CARDAMINES - AURORE

Orange tip male has orange wing tips. Female is mainly white on upperparts. Green pattern on underside gives them a very good camouflage. They have a wingspan of 40 to 48 mm.

Orange tip usually lives along hedgerows, road sides and forest edges, often in wet grassy habitats. This species is found in most parts of Europe, from Scandinavia, through Middle East, to temperate Asia and Japan.

They generally use crucifers as food plants. Adults get nectar from flowers.
Female lays single white eggs on the underside of flower buds. These eggs change to orange after a few days, and become dark at the end.
