08 MAR 08 ~1854 ~

While helping an elderly woman in our area clean out a shed and remove items to the local dump, he discovered this small, worn, handwritten book
He is going to send it to the woman's son cuz he fears she will mistake it for trash . . .

This is a page from a ledger that chronicles activities on a minor plantation from 1853 to 1862

The left page detailed the planting of Osage orange hedges (used as fencing before barbed wire was invented in 1880)

The right page is the annual listing of births to the (presumed) slaves

I'll post other pages later

What a excellent find! Do be careful with it and maybe have someone appraise it.
I once held some old papers that later sold at auction for more then I make in a year! So, if in doubt, keep it!
