This freighter lost steering on landing and veered off the runway onto the frozen lagoon next to Kotzebue's airport. Fortunately, the ice was about five feet thick, enough to hold a DC6. Mechanics from Fairbanks flew out and fixed the gear. But then the problem was getting the plane back onto the runway. With full power on all four engines it was able to taxi back up onto the ramp.
