I can only guess as to what this is on the front of this helicopter.
Since this was an agricultural area, possibly something for spraying crops.

That is a bell 47 rigged for applications. I used to fly this type helicopter in Viet Nam. They called me ace because I was responsible for the destruction of 5 aircraft. Unfortunately I was flying them at the time.
