Haven't had any since February 5th, the night of the F4 tornado that hit Mountain View. It set a record and was ON THE GROUND for 130 miles!!
We had no damage ourselves, except for one tree, but have had no heat or lighting for a long time. Temperatures have been in the 20' & 30's at night. Bought a generator to keep the refrigerators and freezer going.
Lost all means of communication - phones and cell phones.
The hospital was heavily damaged, many homes totally destroyed, hundreds of thousands of livestock gone, one man lost 300 head of cattle, one lost 60,000 chickens.
This amazing little town has pulled their boot straps up and the volunteers are amazing. Not one person should ever criticize WalMart. Within 8 hours they had removed all perishables (to the tune of $92,000.00 loss) and restocked them, had a huge generator here which costs WM $10,000.00 a day, emergency shipments arrived 2 to 3 times a day with batteries, fuel oil lanterns, candles, the tractor trailers with generators. They were the only place in town to have gasoline pumps to provide fuel for not only the vehicles, but all of the generators. Fuel trucks ran regularly with no gasoline outage. The number of utility trucks, parked at the fairgrounds at night was unbelievable.
Only one fatality in the whole town, a bank employee who was working part-time for WalMart. They paid for her funeral. The outpouring of donations were unbelievable. When the other two grocery stores opened, free ice and water, everywhere, the stores and ALL of the banks were providing food and drink. Grills were everywhere, plus the churches cooking hot meals and shelter.
What a wonderful town we call home.
We thank the Lord that there weren't anymore fatalities, a miracle in itself!
One thing I do know - - - - - - - - I AM NOT IMPRESSED WITH CAMPING!!!
love to all,
Marilyn and David
