After several failures to escape by boat out of Vietnam,
in late 1980,

Police caught my team-mate on his way to transport my map and navigation devices
to the gathering point.
After torture, he reported my name.

Returning from a photo labs where I had the pictures developed
after a wedding that I was hired to cover,
my wife told me police went to our house just a moment ago
with their seizure order.
So, the first B-Day party for my son became the farewell party.
Under high stress, I snapped this quick shot
as the boy has his cakes in hands
without knowing that we will be separated in the next minutes.

I was heading to Dong Nai
but I still need another day to purchase the train ticket.
So I went to a friend of mine, Tran Gia Phung for temporary refuge.
