Kevin Slamann and I were altar boys at St. James even through much of high school
when we outgrew the largest garments in the St. Jame's gardrobe. We are pictured
here with Father Hain in the new church that was built near the top of the hill
just off of Mequon Road. In fact, this may have been taken as part of the inaugural
mass. A few newer altar boys are seen here working their way up the ranks. I was
often altar boy at the Saturday masses at 5:00 pm which allowed me to caddie one or
two rounds of golf at Ozaukee Country Club. This was how many of my summers ended
up being spent. Kevin and I also played trombone together in band. Doug Thomae's
Mom was a choir director who recruited us to play one Sunday in a small orchestra
that accompanied the choir. I remember that the musical accompaniment was extremely
difficult to play so there were parts where we went through the motions without actually
playing our instruments.
property of me, but if you're nice we can work it out
