Those are very rare and on the endangered species list here in the States Rod- hope you didn't disturb it ;-)

A slightly ruffled specimen of Mellitoculus adstringae, I believe. Lovely light on the shore there.

Good man, keeping with the bird rule - the end justifies the means eh? :-) Primitive PP. -tv

I've seen that same bird in my yard!!!! I'll wait outside tomorrow so I can capture it :) Hopefully it will draw itself to my attention lol jano

:-)hehe. Claire the Capalaba Awk is far from ugly but I must admit wiv the tricky back lighting it was hard to show this magnificent bird at its best:-)

Ha ha ha. Nice sunset.

you've made me laugh! Loved the colours on the thumbnail and then enlarged the shot...Such a shame when such an ugly bird ruins such a beautiful sunset but 10/10 for entertainment! - claire

Gee - that doesn't look PP'd to me! Great work Rod getting that bird right on the thirds lines! ;-) CJ

Blame it on me, fine. Ahem . . . I suspect this bird was pp'd. Did you insert him? Bad boy!!! -- Bwuce

Thanks all:-) Now I understand, the picy sucks:-) It's all Bwuces fault for picking such a daft topic:-) Anyhow I only have this other picy of the Capalaba Awk hunting for breakfast so it will have to do until I can master bird picys:-)

Yes the shadows are very busy and the bird has an extra tail. There does seem to be a bit of burnout - unusual for you. -tv

OK. Sorry. But somehow it still doesn't look right to me - maybe because the colors are all muted and the birds legs kind of blend into the sand and some of the white feathers are missing. I don't know.....but these are just excuses. Maybe I just don't like wild egrets. (did I get that part right?). Or maybe I like the grass background better.

What I mean is that this is a water kind of bird. To see it in (what it seems like) a desert just looked off to me. Love the light, btw.

Ah Tommy, do you mean the shadows are making it a busy background? I have a very similar picy wiv a grass background. I thought it looked too sort of normal:-)

Thanks Penny, Aamm & Tommy:-) Have you three bin drinking???? I didn't understand one of your comments:-) What are you seeing as a problem here? (Apart from it being a rotten picy):-) I know Aamms might be the WB:-) This was shot at about 5-30am this morning wiv the sun just coming above the horizon, hence the shadows & golden light.
Canon DSLR Challenge26-Jan-2008 02:36
Whoa Rod!! The shadows are playing games with the bird. Careful. I gotta live with it a bid. Back later. -tv
