Borrego Valley

This intricately branched species is widely distributed in the Mojave and Colorado Deserts in sandy or gravelly soils usually between 1,000 and 4,000 feet elevation. Note the slender spiny stems that bear yellow to bronze-colored flowers in the spring. These stems are medium green in color, with pale and sparsely scattered spines.
