The Oakland Raiders overran the Titans with a 52-25 victory. This high-scoring match was complimented by new Raider record setters, Tim Brown, Jerry Rice and Rod Woodson. Tim Brown is now third in NFL history in career receptions, passing up Andre Reed. Jerry Rice set an all-time NFL record for most yards from the line of scrimmage passing Walter Payton. Rod Woodson also made football history as the all-time NFL leader for interception return yards.

In the game, Woodson intercepted three Steve McNair passes; one, which set up a Raider score, one that Woodson returned for a TD, and the third, which sealed the victory. Rookie Phillip Buchanon had a stellar performance with a 83-yard punt return resulting in a touchdown, and an interception.
The Raiders could have sent the Titans packing after their first quarter score-fest. At the end of the eventful quarter, the score was already 21-7 after only 2:50 of Raider possession. Rod Woodson picked off a pass setting up a 17-yard Charlie Garner touchdown reception to put the Raiders up 7-0. Buchanon followed with his 83-yard punt return for a touchdown. The Raiders forced another Titans punt which Buchannon fielded and handed to RB Terry Kirby on a reverse. Kirby went 79 yards for a score to put the Raiders up 21-0.

The Titans countered with a 1-yard TD run by Eddie George late in the first quarter to make the score 21-7. Raiders answered with a 9-play, 84-yard drive that was capped off by a 28-yard Sebastian Janikowski field goal. The Raiders took a 31-7 lead on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Rich Gannon to WR Jerry Rice.
Safety Rod Woodson started the third quarter with his second interception of the game. Woodson raced 82-yards down the sideline for the touchdown putting the Raiders up 38-7. The Titans attempted to mount a comeback with John Simon cashing in on a 3-yard run and Justin McCareins hauling in a 49-yard Steve McNair TD pass.

The Raiders offense got back in gear with Rich Gannon finding WR Jerry Porter on a 10-yard TD strike for Porter's second career TD reception. WR Tim Brown capped off the Silver and Black's scoring barrage with a 41-yard catch and run for a touchdown, giving the Raiders a 52-25 lead with 5:21 to go in the game. Rod Woodson's third interception of the day sealed the victory for the Raiders.
