The Wapama is a lumber schooner, built on an island in the Columbia River in 1914. When I shot this photo in 1969 it was still pretty solid. The Thayer and the hay schooner Alma moored behind the Wapama were both headed for major renovations to save them from the decay of time. Last time I saw the Wapama it was in drydock in Sausalito, undergoing serious measures to save her hull from rot.
