Pandion haliaetus

Osprey at Lovers Key State Park at New Pass
Fort Myers Beach, Florida USA

If you look in the lower left hand corner of the shot, you can see
what appears to be fishing line. I find this a little disturbing as it leads me
to believe that the wild birds are not truly hunting for their quarry.

I observed on this same day the Royal Tern snatching the shrimp bait
of a fisherman from the water on a number of occasions. It was interesting
nonetheless to see the birds carry the bait, hook, and line 60 feet
or more above the water's surface.
