I was trying to recreate something I saw my dad do years ago. He cut a little star out of an index card, put it in front of his lens and took a picture - I can remember all the lights turning into little stars, just like magic. My version didn't turn out as well (and you can probably do this in post-processing anyhow), but it was fun to try.
