We were planning on spending Saturday night camped at about 10,000 ft. (3050 m.) in the Horseshoe Meadows trailhead campground, and spending Sunday hiking out to High Lake (about 6 miles, but with only about 1500 ft. (500 m.) of elevation gain). We got to the trailhead early, so we decided to hike out a few miles that afternoon.

Our first view of Mount Langley was over these trees, but the smoke obscured it in the picture.
You can see that even here at over 3000 m., the forest is thick, and
pretty healthy.
