Ria de Alvor

One of three Dornier (DO 80s) WWII planes belonging to a German company called "Skydive Algarve". They are at Alvor Aerodrome for two weeks at Christmas - New Year, and five weeks over the Easter period. Each plane takes off and lands four times every hour from dawn till dusk with the mission of transporting idiotic free-fall parachutists as high as possible as quickly as possible. They fly very low over my house and the adjacent nature reserve where they disturb a large number of roosting birds, including several hundred Flamingos, as well as a lot of nesting birds during the spring-time. I positively hate them - bring on the Spitfires. There have been drastic accidents when jumpers parachutes have not opened, but not nearly enough. Probably the most mindless, thoughtless and anti-social pastime I can think of. Bloody Krauts!
