Rising Above It All
by Helen Betts

Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C.

Church steeple on North Carolina Ave., S.E., hidden by winter trees. Once again, there is no sign of sunlight around here; if it ever reappears, I may go back for a brighter view, but I suppose the dark sky is fitting for the bare branches.

Maybe not the classic capture of this steeple, but perfect for this theme. The gnarled twigs and branches provide interesting organic cover for the structure. Lora

The dark sky (I still see a bit of blue...) is indeed a companion for the winterly branches. Thanks to the whitish tower there is still some contrast between the branches and the tower and as result our view is obstructed. Well done.

Helen, I think the dark sky is also fitting for the bare branches. And it's a very beautiful color at that. Also, I am drawn to the points, the arches, the triangles and the squares in this beautiful photo. It's quite magical!
