Present day Doha is a sight to behold. Like Las Vegas, it rises out of the desert and you wonder if what you are looking at is real. It is as if a giant hand scattered skyscraper seeds randomly across the sand and they all sprouted on the exact same day. When I was there, I was told there were more than 50 under construction. There was nothing but sand and empty roads around these emerging towers.
