You can't be a photographer in this town without this happening to you, unless of course you just take photos of flowers :-) You were perfectly in the right to take this shot, as is stated in MTA literature, however you cannot use tripods or lighting equipment. The things we do for art :-)

This is interesting to me because when I was in New York about three weeks ago I took a number of shots in the subway. Finally I had a really obnoxious plain clothed guy with a badge tell me that I was breaking the law. Even though I wasn't pleased with this I remembered reading something a couple of years ago in the New York Times about how the MTA had done this or was planning to. However, when I got home I did some checking around and it looks to me that it is perfectly legal to shoot in the subway. Check out this page from MTA NYC and look at "C":
http://www.mta.info/nyct/rules/rules.htm#restricted So I guess the next time I'm there I'll print out a copy of this and carry it around with me, but of course who knows it it would really be enough to convince a security guard.
Great capture by the way!!

That's an action shot! I am surprised that they didn't try to get you after. That's why when I feel that risk coming, I double my shot, to be sure that I can delete one in front of the upset security guard.
