At The Black Sand Beach I had the most wonderful experience. To sit among the sea turtles. I made my way out across the lava rock and tide pools (low tide) to sit with these amazing creatures. I watched as many struggled for over an hour to make it up upon a rock. You could tell this took amazing strength and focus. Once the sea turtle made it to a resting place it would lay in the sun without much movement. I could have reached right over to them and stroked their beautiful shell but did not.
Many great snorkel opportunities at the beach. It is like an aquarium with bright colored coral and loads of tropical fish! Wear your rash guard and watch out for the rocks at low tide.
If you have the oportunity to try this please respect them and their home. Also, the lava rock and tide pools are full of dangers even at low tide.
