If you are ever fortunate enough to find yourself driving down the west coast of Scotland, perhaps heading from Loch Lomond across towards Inveraray; or even better, if you are on your way to Tighnabruaich or Dunoon (or even Colintraive to catch the 'Wee' ferry to Bute), then you would be a fool to miss this place. Tucked away on the shores of a small bay on the Cowal side of Loch Fyne are the remains of Castle Lachlan, home to the Clan McNaughton. Follow the signs for Strachur (remembering to stop there and walk along the Loch Fyne shore), then head onto the single track road towards Kilfinnan and Otter Ferry. Try to keep your eyes on the road (although it might be difficult). Every day I give thanks for living in this country.
