Gen. Breckinridge, former U.S. Vice-President, Confederate general, and Secretary of War for The Confederacy, had better luck escaping after the War than did Jefferson Davis. Breckinridge hid out at Jacksonville, Ga. for at least two days. The first night he and his men stayed in a wooded thicket and then removed to a private home. His missing moustache had the Jacksonville folks guessing about the identity of their famous guest.
