Matt Malczynski was a great friend. We got to know each other when he came in as a New Guy. We spent a lot of time together in the field and in basecamp. He took over as medic for my platoon when I moved. Matt was not only a great friend, he was an outstanding soldier and combat medic. The guys had a lot of confidence in him. The last time I saw him was 22 December, 1967. Matt was killed on 26 December, 1967.
