Five Lakes is a wonderful spot but unfortunately with its easy access we are loving it to death. In the old days we would hike up, take the dogs for a swim, layout on the rocks and enjoy the sun. Today because of the throngs of dogs and people the lakes are in peril. I no longer hike there during prime summer months and I never take my dog. As much I enjoy hiking with Kaweah these lakes are far too precious and fragile for him to play in. Thankfully most local dog lovers are avoiding this spot when hiking with man’s best friend. Hike it in the fall, without the pooch, carry a bag and take some trash home.
