Arenal is an active, make that, VERY active, volcano. Burning rock and debris
constantly were expelled from the crater and plumes of smoke could be seen
escaping from the volcano’s side. The volcano’s dome first appeared in a
1968 eruption and has grown 800 feet to become higher that the old
dormant dome to the left.
