As usual, the church dominates the skyline of the community. In Brive, it's Eglise St. Martin de Brive.
St. Martin was born in 356 to a Spanish aristocratic family. He embraced Christianity early and went to Rome.
According to tradition, Martin arrived in Brive on the 9th of August 407, a day consecrated to Saturnus. He entered the temple and pulled down the idols and sacrificial altar, enraging the idolatrous citizens of Brive. They stoned him to death, and cut off his head.
A few decades later, a sanctuary was erected on the site where he was killed, consecrated to St. Martin.
