There are 4 Holy Days, according to the Buddhist calendar, where temples are circumbulated 3 times (for the Buddha, the Sangha (clergy), and the Dharma (law).
Each Holy Day corresponding to a specific auspicious event in the life of the Buddha. I believe this temple Wat Than was celebrating MAKHA PUJA, in honor of the first sermon the Buddha gave after his enlightenment.
