two cranes & a caterpillar

Like clearing my palate with a dish of sherbet between courses at a sumptuous dinner, I need the occasional black and white image to clear my head of color, especially since all my eyes see around me during autumn is a vibrantly painted world. There's something liberating about stark values and simple shapes, rather like meditation. The mind can cease its chattering and sit in the stillness. That's what I hope this image will do for you. It has done so for me.

Excellent industrial photo Patricia. V.

The absence of color, when used effectively,
can be quite powerful and lends itself to
deeper study. I do like the placement of
these two pieces of machinery.

Yes...the everyday art of abstract in a photograph and in b&w makes it really stand out.

Cool capture!

You not only abstract and juxtapose parts of construction equipment here, Patricia -- you also place them against a backdrop of a cloudscape that when turned to black and white becomes threatening. The truncation of this equipment takes it out of context, fragments it, and when placed before these clouds suggests the coming obsolescence of much the industrial world as we know it. I used a junked crane and clouds to make a similar suggestion athttp://www.pbase.com/image/56188271

Lovely strong image - composition and B & W conversion make it even more dramatic.
