In Wistmans Wood

Far up on the side of the West Dart river valley stands this
legendary grove of the Druids, a chaotic and stunted forest which has woven myth
and muse together as tightly as the straggly ancient oaks embrace the
moss and lichen-clad granite boulders.
Depending upon the mood of the season as much as your inner mindscape,
it can be dark, scary and claustrophobic or green and welcoming.
On the dull day when these photos were taken, with low cloud and rain threatning,
it actually felt like a refuge from the modern world.

NB: Too many visitors are causing ecological damage,
Please do not take lichen from the trees or dislodge moss from the rocks,
it takes many years to regenerate. Don't leave litter to defile this
special place either.
