We moved from Montreal to Miami in 1958. My Dad went to work in the service department of J.D. Ball Ford. He said it was a great place to work. He stayed with Ball until we moved back to Canada several years later.

I have 1 of the 2 1969 Shelby GT350's that were delivered to J. D. Ball Ford and leased to Hertz. The car is still here in the Miami area, and is now attending car shows after a complete restoration as of January 2019. I did some searching and found the other 1969 Shelby GT350 in Ohio. Google redshost for photos.

The gasoline signs showing gas at $0.289 per gallon make you wish for the old days. But when you figure inflation in, that's the same as $2.31 today. Here in South Carolina, gas is $2.19 right now, so it's actually cheaper. To put this into perspective another way, the average yearly income in 1964 was $4,500, vs. almost $50,000 today.

In the late 1960's my first job was at J.D. Ball Ford, I was the luckiest boy in the world I got to move the Shelbys around the lot! I have an Orginal J.D. Ball Ford metal dealer sticker that went on the rear of cars sold at the dealership.

Great post, Faye, thanks! Hopefully we'll both be around for another decade or so so keep writing and posting, especially on this site because I like what you have to say.

I saw JD Ball Ford in Goldfinger when I watched it repeatedly as a little girl, and I remember "that car dealer (and joes diner and the kentucky fried chicken store) are captured in time for anybody to see in The Future. It' s a time and place that will now be saved forever, like it was sealed in a little package".

But sometime when I wasn't paying attention, I turned onto an old lady. I'm watching goldfinger again right now, and dam if I didn't remember that. I had totally forgotten it.

I also thought the Mustang was the coolest car ever made. It was SO different than the "bulgemobiles" from the fifties. And when I saw a Shelby GT for the first time, I thought "Wow, The Future is finally starting! It's not the past anymore!" That's why I liked the movie: all the technological gimmicks. In particular, I was sad that Bond's radio locator in his car would never, ever be real.

Now it really is The Future, and Bond's car-locating map display is not only real, but so crude and primitive compared to a cheap GPS, that no one would ever want one.

JD Ball is dead. So is virtually everyone else who was a grownup then.

Shortly, I will follow them.

But when I open the little package and see his dealership and the brand new Mustangs frozen in those few moments of spacetime, I'm young again.

...but only for 15 minutes.

♥, <--- it turns out, THAT'S what's important, not technology.

I am the owner of a 1966 Mustang that I bought in 1991. I have the original owners manual with this dealerships info. The original owner - Mr Joseph Peters purchased the car on 8-2-66. I also have the original owners address and warranty number. I tried year back to reach out to Mr Peters with no luck. So I thought I would try it once more. I would love to get any info/ pictures of the car. The car is Springtime yellow with a Black Vinyl top and Black interior with original A/C. It has the original straight six in it with 118,000 miles on it. Thanks in advance for any info someone may be able to provide me - Marc

I was just watching the movie "Goldfinger". During the scene leading up to the mobster getting crushed in a brand new Lincoln, they drove past the J.D. Ford dealership and several gas stations all selling at 28.9 cents a gallon. Ah, the good old days!

Does anyone have anything from the drag races when they ran at homestead air base?

J.D. Ball Ford was one of my customers back in the sixties. They were a Shelby dealership and I remember seeing a red 427 Cobra on the showroom floor for about $6,500 or so. I bought a used 1967 Shelby Mustang GT500 from them for $1,600 then sold it 6 months later for $2,500. Wish I had it now!

As a teenager, one of the big thrills each year was visiting all the dealerships in town to review the new models. Since J.D. Ball Ford was close to home, a number of trips were made there to see the different models. On one of our visits there was a triple black 1957
T-Bird there that turned out to have the McCullogh supercharged 292 engine, which I believe is desinated the F model, and is extremely rare and valuable today. Also a like new used 1957 sedan was on the lot with a rediculously low price marked on the windshield. The salesman informed us that a man had committed suicide in the car and hadn't been discovered for several days. No one would get inside the car to clean it and so it was for sale as is.
