Best to view this in large view rather than orginal as I left this very large so you could see the different effects.
This is a composite I made using the poor butterfly selection in all the different Painter layer modes. This is shown on a light colored pattern, but I can use a fill layer of any color above canvas layer to see the different results the change of color makes. I found doing this helps me understand the blending modes better.
