Homeschooling is really wonderful, for our family. It is working out great, and I have found that I am learning just as much teaching my boys, as they are. However, there are days when it just doesn't click. Days when math takes way too long, or that reading just isn't as interesting. Days when being outside, becomes a lesson in itself.
Today was one of those days for us. The Entomologist wasn't in the mood for formal lessons today. He didn't care about writing, and certainly wasn't in the mood for math. He wasn't having it. I vented a little to a friend of mine, and she suggested for us to just take it outside today. There are, afterall, lots to learn about, out there. Bugs are a no brainer for us. We seek them out, hunt them down. Sometimes we get lucky and find really unique bugs, and sometimes not so much.
This little dragonfly was hanging out around our front yard today. We couldn't believe that he sat still as long as he did. It's as if he knew what we were doing. So this is the start of our lesson today. We have a photograph, now we will research all we can to learn about these beautiful insects. I am sure there is lots to know.
