If the holes for the four tuning pegs are to wide, the peg moves to easily and the tuning might change. A good Pipa keeps the tuning for a long time while a cheap model has to be retuned every time before plaing. The black colour of the "xiang" indicates a kind of "no viewing" zone - of course they get used, but not that often.

Auch die Stimmwirbel müssen gut sitzen, um die Stimmung auch über Wochen zu halten. Die schwarze Farbe der "xiang" zeigt auch eine Art Sichtsperre für den Spieler an, der das Instrument aufrecht im Sitzen vor dem Bauch hält, so daß eben diese Bünde ausserhalb seiner Sicht liegen.
