Working the Gears

Some boats had come in and were starting to wait in line for the locks to open, each one of the 8 locks are done by hand, on both sides.
There were a small group of girls and boys going up and down each lock to open and then close them. This is an engineering system more than a century old, that uses water,
gravity, human muscle power, and a basic system of levers and gears to move boats up and down from one water level to another.
