Two Years Later - Remembering the People

Metairie Cemetery

More than 1500 white flags with a name on each fly in memory of the people who lost their lives in Hurricane Katrina in the metro New Orleans area. Many drowned or died in their attics from the heat.
When one drives by, it appears to be a symbolic event to mark the second anniversary of Katrina. However, if one walks among the flags and reads the names on the flags it suddenly becomes very real. When taking this photo, the first name I read was that of a friend.

Very profound, a small tribute to those who were lost. Looks like the area of Metarie Cemetery that my parents are buried. (Parklawn I think)

Your caption and words brought tears to my eyes. I can only imagine how emotional that visit must have been. Nice caption to relate to others how painful the memory is even after two years past. Vote.

Somehow it feels like they were all your friends or at least you are their friend. And, you've done a great job on the making this photo tell us the story.

A very powerful reminder, such a waste of life, Coleen!

Very sad indeed Coleen, there but for the grace of god there could have been many more.
