8/25/07 - Selective Focus

Take an interesting angle on a pretty subject, focus as close as possible with a wide open lens, and see what you get.
The Nikkor 2.8 105mm 1:1 Micro lens (yes, macro to the rest of the world, but Nikon calls it micro) is interesting in its aperture. Although it's listed as 2.8 this is only at infinity (actually beyond 10 feet). As you focus closer the lens lengthens and "wide open" is no longer 2.8. Here I was wide open but because of the focal distance of about a foot, the reported f/stop is far beyond 2.8. Just a little trivia.
